Issue No. 4: Three left unbeaten

Two unbeaten teams met in Leesburg on Tuesday. Heritage walked out still perfect, and five became three.

Twenty-seven games into Loudoun's first season. Heritage and Riverside are four wins from four. Lightridge, who have not played since September 1, are two from two. The table is sorted by winning percentage, then by wins, then alphabetically. Loudoun has not published a tiebreaker.

Heritage and Loudoun Valley had five wins and no losses between them when they walked onto the stadium field at Heritage. Heritage had scored 85 and conceded 12. Loudoun Valley had scored 55 and conceded 7. Heritage won it 27 to 13, which is the most points anyone has put on Loudoun Valley and the most anyone has put on Heritage, both in the same evening.

Riverside kept pace on the other side of the county. 26 to 0 over Dominion is Riverside's second shutout, and twelve points conceded across four games is the meanest defensive record in Loudoun.

Two first wins

Loudoun County came into Tuesday having played two games and scored six points in them. Against Rock Ridge they scored nineteen, and they won, 19 to 12. It is the school's first win in the sport.

Loudoun County hosted opening night on August 18 and has now played three home games. This was the first one it won.

Woodgrove got its first the next evening, 19 to 7 over John Champe at home. That leaves three schools still looking for a win: Briar Woods, Stone Bridge and Park View. Every score on this page is on the schedule page with its source named.

A correction

It came back 46. When this issue was published on September 11, this box said Tuscarora's opening-night win over Park View was 39 to 0, not the 46 to 0 we had first printed from Tuscarora's own account, because the district results listing had 39 and our rule was that the district listing wins. We asked Tuscarora. On September 15 Tony Tallent, athletic director at Tuscarora, told us the school had checked and 46 is correct. The table above and the schedule page are back to 46. The district listing, for this one game, is wrong, and we will say so again if it changes.

Ahead

Saturday, September 19 The NOVA Girls Flag Championship at Heritage. Sixteen teams from three counties play four pools in the morning and a bracket in the afternoon, with the final scheduled for 5:00 on the stadium field. Twelve of the sixteen are Loudoun schools. Gates open at 8:30 and admission is $10 for the whole day. Games start as soon as the field is clear, so the day can run ahead of the printed times. Every pool, field and time is here.

Before that, three regular game nights. Monday, September 14 has five games, and all three unbeaten teams play, none of them at home: Riverside at Tuscarora, Lightridge at Rock Ridge in its first game for two weeks, and Heritage against Potomac Falls on the neutral field at Dominion. Tuesday the 15th has four, with Lightridge back out at home to Stone Bridge. Thursday the 17th has three.

Fairfax County's season starts on Tuesday, September 29, eighteen days from now, with twenty-five schools playing on Tuesday and Wednesday nights through to a county final at Robinson on November 14.
