Loudoun County plays its first girls flag football games tomorrow.
Not Virginia's first. Richmond has been playing since 2025, Fairfax opens its second season in September, and Prince William crowned a district champion last year. But tomorrow is Loudoun's first, at all seventeen of its high schools at once.
This is the first issue of Flags Up Virginia, and it is mostly a calendar, because dates and venues seemed like the most useful thing to put in a family's hands first. Everything here is free and it stays free.

The whole fall
Loudoun County. Seventeen schools, two regions, and a county championship at Potomac Falls High School on Tuesday, October 13. The complete season is published here, every date and every venue, from the district's master schedule with LCPS's permission.
Fairfax County. Twenty-five schools, opening six weeks after Loudoun. The regular season runs September 29 to November 4, on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings, usually two games a night at one host school. Play-in games and quarterfinals are November 11 at Hayfield and Falls Church. The county semifinals and final are Saturday, November 14 at Robinson, and the final kicks off at 12:30.
Chantilly's full season is up now, sent by their coach Adam Neff and published with his permission. If your Fairfax school's schedule is set, we would publish that too.
Richmond, Henrico and Petersburg play in the fall as well, and we are collecting those dates now. Richmond has been at this longer than anywhere else in Virginia we know of. Its schools played two full championship seasons in a single calendar year: John Marshall took the spring title in May 2025, and Open High took the fall title that November.
If your daughter wants to play
Most fall sports hold tryouts before school starts, which means a girl who first hears about this sport in a September hallway has often already missed the window.

The record book
We have published a record book with every category named and every line blank. The lines wait, because a statewide record needs one rulebook and Virginia's districts are not all playing by the same one yet.

Send us a score
If you coach, run an athletics office, or you are a parent in the stands with the final on your phone, we would like it. A score, a date, a team name we have spelled wrong. It goes up free, with the school credited, and we correct anything the same day.
