Issue No. 2: All seventeen, on the field

Every one of Loudoun County's seventeen schools has now played girls flag football.

The county opened in two waves. Nine schools played the first two game nights, and the other eight played their first games on Tuesday. Two weeks in, the county has played twelve games, and we have a final for every one of them.

Heritage, Tuscarora and Riverside are two wins from two. Nobody has scored on the Pride or the Huskies yet.

A correction. We first published Monday's Riverside game as 16 to 9, taken from a social media post. The district's results listing and Loudoun County's athletics office both have it 19 to 6. We fixed the page the same day, and the page notes the change.

Tonight

Rock Ridge Phoenix vs Park View Patriots 5:30 tonight, at Seneca Ridge Middle School in Sterling. Seneca Ridge is Park View's home field this season. Both teams are looking for their first win.

Saturday, September 19 is the only Saturday on the Loudoun calendar: a 7 on 7 tournament at Heritage, listed as the Heritage Invitational, from 9:00 in the morning.

Fairfax opens September 29. Twenty-five schools, Tuesday and Wednesday game nights, a county final at Robinson on November 14. That season is here.

The blank lines

Twenty-five states have sanctioned girls flag football as a varsity high school sport. Virginia is not yet one of them; the national trackers list us among the independent and pilot programs. That is why the record book is published with its lines blank. When Virginia settles on one rulebook, the lines get filled.
