Seventeen Loudoun County high schools are fielding girls flag football teams this fall. The season opens Tuesday, August 18, and ends with a county championship at Potomac Falls High School on Tuesday, October 13.
Every school is here, Freedom and Park View and Lightridge and John Champe and Dominion included. It comes from the LCPS master schedule, published with the district's permission, so families can find the whole season in one place.
LCPS has eighteen high schools. We don't yet know whether William O. Robey in Sterling, which opened in 2024, is fielding a team this year. If it is, we would like to add it.
Fairfax County's season is here too. It opens September 29 and finishes with a county final at Robinson on November 14.

Loudoun County 19, Rock Ridge 12 is Loudoun County's first win. Independence at Freedom has moved here from September 10. Freedom's account announced the move, the district results listing carries it for both schools, and Kevin Weeren, athletic director at Freedom, confirmed on September 3 that Freedom hosts Independence at 5:30. Briar Woods 20, Broad Run 0 was added on August 10 as a published correction, removed on September 8, and restored on October 1. On the night itself the fixture had vanished from both schools’ district listings and Broad Run’s next game was shown as September 14 at Dominion, so we took it off the page and said so. It later reappeared on both district pages carrying 20 to 0, which is why we asked. Michael Benson, athletic director at Briar Woods, answered on October 1: “Yes we played BR that evening. 20-0. Win.” The game is Briar Woods’ first win and Broad Run’s third loss, and it is the one that eventually takes them to five. The district listing also showed Freedom at Briar Woods at the same hour, which remains ruled out: Kevin Weeren confirmed Freedom hosts Independence, and Briar Woods cannot be in two places.

Sixteen teams from three counties, seven a side, in four pools of four, on four fields at Heritage. Twelve Loudoun schools are in it: Park View, Heritage, Lightridge, Freedom, Riverside, Dominion, Rock Ridge, Woodgrove, Independence, Loudoun Valley, John Champe and Potomac Falls. From outside the county, Millbrook and Sherando from Frederick County, and two squads from Colgan in Prince William. Pool play runs 9:00 to 2:00, quarterfinals at 3:00, semifinals at 4:00, the final at 5:00 on the stadium field, trophies at 6:00. Gates open at 8:30 and admission is $10 a person for the whole day. Woodgrove 32, Independence 19 was queried because a second source reading the game film had Independence on 13, and Rusty Lowery, athletic director at Woodgrove, confirmed on October 2: “32-19 Woodgrove over Independence.” Lightridge 7, Freedom 6 was independently confirmed by an assistant coach at Freedom. Lightridge 7, Freedom 6 is the third one point game in Loudoun in eight days, after Lightridge 7, Independence 6 on September 24 and Riverside 7, Heritage 6 on September 28. The county had gone five weeks without one and has now had three. Lightridge have won two of them, both by the same score. It leaves Lightridge unbeaten. No two Loudoun teams play each other twice in the regular season, so that was their only scheduled meeting. Both are in Region 1 and the October 13 bracket crosses the halves, confirmed by Nicholas Siano on October 2, so if they both qualify the one place they can meet again is the championship. Under the head-to-head tiebreaker Matt Oblas confirmed on October 1, Lightridge hold it over Freedom for the rest of the season. Briar Woods 24, Loudoun Valley 0 equals Briar Woods’ highest score of the season. They also scored 24 at Stone Bridge on September 29, two days earlier.

Four finals. Three came from the LCPS results system, each read off both teams’ own pages. Broad Run 19, Potomac Falls 0 was confirmed on October 9 by Claire Collins, athletic director at Broad Run, in her words: “Correct for the score BR 19 PF 0.” Broad Run’s own girls flag football account gave us the result first, in a comment on our post. It is the last game of Broad Run’s regular season. Riverside 19, Briar Woods 13 is the most Riverside have conceded in a game this season; their previous most was 6, given up three times. Lightridge 28, Loudoun Valley 0 is Lightridge’s third shutout. Dominion’s win is their fifth in a row. Monday settled two of the four places on October 13. Lightridge in Region 1 and Riverside in Region 2 can no longer be caught for a top two finish, enumerated across every remaining outcome and checked under both readings of a regular season record, since the schools have not all played the same number of games. Before Monday neither had clinched. Second place in Region 2 is decided when Heritage meet Dominion on October 8.

Seven finals from the LCPS results system, every one read off both teams’ own pages. Thursday settled the last two places on October 13, and the whole field is now known. Heritage 13, Dominion 6 took second in Region 2: the two could only have finished level if Dominion had won, and head to head would then have gone to Dominion, so the place was decided on the night. Freedom took second in Region 1. The four seeds come out the same whether a record is read as wins or as winning percentage. Lightridge 13, Woodgrove 7 leaves Lightridge unbeaten through the regular season. Freedom 31, Stone Bridge 0 is Freedom’s highest score since the 52 they put up on September 22. John Champe 24, Briar Woods 22 is one of two games Loudoun has played that were decided by two points, and John Champe played in both. The other was Independence 14, John Champe 12 on September 15. Across the whole season only the three one point games were closer. It is John Champe’s third win in a row and it finishes their season at four wins and four losses.
Friday, October 9 Rock Ridge homecoming

Rock Ridge's athletics account and the district results listing both have this game on Friday October 9 at 4:45. Rock Ridge calls it homecoming. Tuscarora 24, Rock Ridge 20, from the LCPS results system, read off both teams’ own pages. It is Tuscarora’s third win of the season and their first since August 24. Friday was the last game of the Loudoun regular season, which finishes on seventy three games across seventeen schools. The seeds for October 13 follow from the final table: Lightridge and Freedom from Region 1, Riverside and Heritage from Region 2, with second place clear of third in both halves under both winning percentage and raw wins, so no tiebreaker is needed at either qualifying line.
Heritage against Dominion at Potomac Falls is published by both schools' girls flag football accounts and is not on the district master schedule we built this page from. Dominion's schedule notes that it is the home team in this one even though the game is played at Potomac Falls.
Tuesday, October 13 · Potomac Falls High School
Lightridge are the first Loudoun County champions. Lightridge beat Heritage 18 to 12, Riverside beat Freedom 6 to 0, and Lightridge won the final. No score has been published for the final.
The three results came from LCPS Athletics, the school district’s athletics account, and reached us on October 24 from Kevin Weeren, athletic director at Freedom. That account named Lightridge as champions without giving a score for the final, so the final is recorded here as a result with no score against it. The format is from Matt Oblas, athletic director at Riverside, on September 30. The top two teams from each half of the county qualify. Seeds are decided on regular season record. The three kick times are 5:30, 6:30 and 7:30, all at Potomac Falls, given to us on October 2 by Nicholas Siano, athletic director at Potomac Falls, which is hosting. Those times are not published anywhere else we can find. The bracket is a crossover, confirmed by Siano on October 2. In his words: “Game 1, Region 1 #1 vs Region 2 #2. Game 2, Region 2 #1 vs Region 1 #2. Game 3, Championship.” That matches what Oblas told us on September 30. Applying that bracket to the finished regular season gives the card. Region 1 finished Lightridge first on 8-0 and Freedom second on 6-2. Region 2 finished Riverside first on 9-0 and Heritage second on 8-1. Both orders hold whether seeds are read as wins or as winning percentage, which matters because the schools have not all played the same number of games. The crossover therefore puts Lightridge against Heritage in one semifinal and Riverside against Freedom in the other, with the Region 1 and Region 2 top seeds at home in the 5:30 and 6:30 slots respectively. The regular season is complete at seventy three games. The last two results to arrive, John Champe 24, Briar Woods 22 and Tuscarora 24, Rock Ridge 20, involve no qualifier, so they change none of this. So each semifinal is a Region 1 team against a Region 2 team, and two teams from the same half cannot meet before the championship. We held this open for three hours on October 2 because Siano’s first note labelled the slots “5:30 Region 1, 6:30 Region 2” and we could not tell whether that named the teams or the home seeds. It named the home seeds. Freedom and Heritage both call October 13 the playoffs rather than the final. If two teams finish level on record, head-to-head is the first tiebreaker, which Oblas confirmed on October 1. He gave the rest of the chain on October 2, and it covers every Loudoun sport rather than this one alone. “Point differential never comes into play with any of our sports in tiebreaking procedures in Loudoun. A three-way tie goes first to head to head among those three. If the tie cannot be broken, it would essentially be who beat the next best team among those three. If that cannot be broken, which it often cannot, it goes to a coin flip or draw.” There is no points-scored or points-allowed component anywhere in it, and a place in the county semifinals can come down to a coin toss. That makes single results worth seeds. Riverside and Heritage meet only once all season, on September 28, and Riverside won it 7 to 6, so Riverside hold the tiebreaker between them. Lightridge and Freedom met only once, on October 1, and Lightridge won it 7 to 6, so Lightridge hold that tiebreaker. Independence and Woodgrove also met only once, the same evening, and Woodgrove won. So Lightridge and Freedom, first and second in Region 1, were on opposite sides of the bracket, and the one place they could have met again was the championship. Freedom lost their semifinal to Riverside, so the two did not meet.

Resolved. There is nothing on the fourteenth.
Dominion's girls flag football account lists October 14 as the last date of its season, and it is not on the district master schedule we built this page from. Asked directly, Matt Oblas answered on October 1: “October 13 is the correct day.” The postseason is one night. This entry is kept rather than deleted because the date was published here while it was unexplained, and a page that quietly removes what it got wrong is worth less than one that says so.

Corrected October 1, 2026. From September 8 until today this page said Briar Woods did not play on September 8. It did. Briar Woods beat Broad Run 20 to 0, confirmed by Briar Woods’ athletic director. The game has been restored and the September 8 source note now carries the whole sequence. We were wrong in print for three weeks and the standings in Issues No. 3 through No. 6 were computed without this result.
Corrected August 10, 2026. An earlier version of this page listed three field hockey fixtures as flag football games on September 8, 10 and 15, and omitted Broad Run at Briar Woods on September 8. Fixed within the hour.
