Photo & Coverage Policy

The short version: we photograph public games the way sports pages always have, we add protections the law doesn't require because our athletes are minors, and if you ever want a photo of your kid removed, one email removes it.

What we publish

Flags Up Virginia publishes editorial coverage of girls flag football in Virginia: game photography from public events, parent-submitted photos, scores, standings, records, and honors. Editorial photography at public sporting events is standard, lawful sports journalism — the same footing every newspaper sports page has always operated on.

Our added protections

Names. We pair a player's name with her photo only when her own parent or guardian provides that name in their submission. Otherwise, action is credited to teams, not named individuals. Coach-provided box scores may name players for records and honors — the standard of every scoreboard and stat sheet — but photo captions follow the stricter rule.

Celebration only. We never publish criticism of a student athlete. Not her play, not her mistakes, not ever. Interviews are with adults only.

No-questions takedown. A parent or guardian who wants any image of their child removed emails hello@flagsupvirginia.com. We remove it promptly — from the site and our social accounts — no reason required, no follow-up, no hard feelings. This promise has no expiration date.

Editorial and commercial are separate rooms. Game photos and player images are never used in advertising, sponsorship placements, or sales material of any kind. Sponsor content on Flags Up Virginia is clearly marked and uses no game photography. Ever.

Parent submissions

By submitting a photo you confirm that you took it (or have the right to share it), and that we may publish it with credit to you. You choose your credit: your name, "a Founding Correspondent," or uncredited. You may name your own child in your caption; names of other children are removed unless their own parent has submitted consent.

Corrections

Errors in the record are corrected promptly and visibly. The Record Book inscribes only coach-verified results, so corrections there should be rare — but "rare" is not "never," and we fix what we get wrong.

This policy may be strengthened over time; it will not be weakened.
